BOTOX® COSMETIC: BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most popular cosmetic treatment for the face and is a highly safe and effective non-surgical procedure. BOTOX® is a simple way to dramatically reduce dynamic facial lines caused by overactive facial muscles. BOTOX® is a purified protein that blocks treatment muscles from contracting. It only affects the area where it is placed and has minimal side effects. The action of BOTOX® typically lasts from 3 to 4 months. It has been used in cosmetic applications for 10 years and in non-cosmetic uses for over 20 years. It has been FDA approved for facial wrinkles since 2002. Dr. Lane has extensive experince administering BOTOX®. Every time you express emotions the delicate muscles of the face contract and, over time, cause dynamic facial wrinkles. The more expressive you are, the deeper these wrinkles and lines are likely to be. Facial wrinkles can be misinterpreted as anger, anxiety, and are always associated with age. While fillers can plump up these areas and surgical procedures can tighten the skin and muscles around these lines, neither can address the underlying muscle pull, which eventually deepens the facial wrinkles. BOTOX® is used to treat the facial lines from overactive muscles of the upper face. BOTOX® is an excellent complimentary procedure to overall facial rejuvenation and can be used alone or in combination with facial fillers and skin treatments such as laser resurfacing. |

SOFT TISSUE FILLERS:
Facial fillers replace skin substances that, when lost, cause wrinkles. The skin thins by loss of collagen and fluid. In youth, the skin remains plump from a natural sugar called hyaluronic acid that attracts and binds water. Fillers are substances that are injected to fill in wrinkles and facial depressions that may come with age. We offer different options for facial fillers and choose the best for the specific problem and longevity. Facial fillers are most commonly used to:
Different fillers are used to address different needs. Restylane® is an easy way to add volume and smoothness to your skin. This filler is based on a hyaluronic acid gel that closely resembles the body's own hyaluronic acid. It is long lasting, but not permanent. It provides structural support to lift and smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
Juvederm® is another hyaluronic acid gel option that is known for smooth application and long lasting results.
Radiesse® is another filler option. Made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, this treatment stimulates the body to produce new collagen - often with just one or two office visits. Radiesse® filler is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure giving you immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles. While not permanent, it provides noticeable long-lasting results. In many, the effects of Radiesse® filler may last 18 months or more. Dr. Lane uses Radiesse® in nasolabial creases that extend from nose to mouth and marionette lines from mouth to chin. It is also used along the jaw line to reduce jowl appearance. Dr. Lane is also using Radiesse® injections in hands to reduce the hollowed-out, aged hand appearance.
Perlane® dermal filler is used to soften wrinkles and facial lines associated with aging. It is also a popular filler for lip augmentation, facial depressions, and facial scarring. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane® augments the body's natural supply, which has become depleted with age. The injected Perlane® fills up scars, lines and wrinkles on the face. While Perlane® is not a permanent product, the effect of Perlane® typically lasts 6-8 months, and then the product is broken down in the body. Perlane® injections can be used to improve the contour of facial skin, decrease unsightly wrinkles, and reduce fine lines around the nose, folds, scars and other facial skin depressions. |

LASER TREATMENT / SKIN RESURFACING:
Skin resurfacing is an excellent way of reducing deeper facial wrinkles and reversing the effect of aging on the skin. This is accomplished by stripping away the dead outer layer of skin, thus stimulating re-growth within the deeper layers of the skin. Newer, more youthful skin then re-grows, like the “baby skin” you get under a scrape or superficial burn. For many years deep chemical peels and dermabrasion have performed classic facial skin resurfacing. Recently, the field of cosmetic surgery has been revolutionized by the use of lasers.
A laser is high intensity light of specific wave length, which has very precise and predictable effects on the skin or any substance being treated. The mainstay of skin resurfacing is the laser. Dr. Lane performs laser procedures with a new fractional technology which results in reduction of facial wrinkles as well as improvement to pigment abnormalities.
The laser accurately vaporizes the skin layer by layer. There is some effect on the collagen fibers as well during deeper laser treatments, adding strength and causing re-organizing of collagen bundles to efface deep wrinkles.
In considering laser resurfacing we will evaluate your skin type since this treatment is not for everyone. When used on the right skin type, laser resurfacing can lead to routinely good results.
Immediately following the laser treatment the skin appears deep red. Various dressings are used which occlude and protect the skin in some fashion. The length of recovery depends on the depth of the laser treatment and the patient's skin type. Camouflage make-up can usually be applied commencing 5 to 8 days following the procedure.
IPL procedures are also available in Dr. Lane’s office for reduction and removal of red and brown spots on the face, chest and hands. |

PROCEDURES
FACELIFT / RHYTIDECTOMY:
A facelift or rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure that effectively reduces the visible signs of aging by "lifting" sagging skin, reducing jowls and improving a drooping neck. A facelift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face and more than any other procedure, it can restore a more youthful, refreshed face. As the facial muscles and skin weaken, facial tissue sags and jowls form along the mid-jaw. Skin may droop under the chin, creating a "turkey gobbler" effect. The cheeks also descend causing deepened nasolabial folds (folds running from your nose around the mouth) and thinning of the mid-face. These conditions are all best corrected by a facelift. Depending on your needs, a facelift can be combined with other procedures such as blepharoplasty and browlift for a "complete" look.
Today's facelift procedure addresses the aging face more holistically by evaluating four basic principles. The first is laxity in the facial skin. Some subtle removal of facial skin is necessary but today's procedure involves less pulling and tightening because we address the other problems associated with the aging face. These problems are loss of bone architecture, loss of muscle mass and finally loss of facial fat. In the modern facelift, to ensure a more natural look, augmentation of this bone architecture, muscle structure and facial fat is addressed in a number of ways. First, safe porous implants can be used to restore needed facial architecture and produce a better jaw line and facial contour. Secondly, fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face, jaws and neck, and underlying tissue repositioned. Commonly the deeper layers of the face and the muscles are also lifted. The skin is then re-draped over newly uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away. These steps work in conjunction, creating a more natural result that doesn't appear pulled or tight. Dr. Lane may also use fillers to augment deep creases in the lines from the nose to the mouth and from the mouth down to the chin. These areas may need work before or after a facelift, as they may not be completely treated. Dr. Lane also performs limited or mini face-lift procedures for selected patients with specific areas or obvious aging.
When are you ready for a facelift?
There is no specific age when it's best to have a facelift. It is a highly individualized procedure and many factors go into determining if it's best for you. Facelift surgery is a good option for you if:

EYELID SURGERY / BLEPHAROPLASTY:
The eyes are the first feature we look at in each others face and are often one of the first facial features to show signs of aging. Lines around the eyes may be sending the wrong signal to the world that you are stressed, fatigued or angry. Eyelids show signs of aging faster than other facial features because we blink thousands of times per day. The skin of the eyelid is half as thick as the rest of the face, with fewer internal moisture glands. As a result, eyelid skin is more prone to sagging and stretching. This is made worse by sun exposure, squinting and eye rubbing. We offer options to address problems associated with both the upper and lower eyelids.
As we age, the fat surrounding the eye tends to bulge outward, and hereditary factors may cause this to happen prematurely. Fat around the eyelid also retains water, so these bags often appear puffier in the morning, when one is tired and with those who suffer from allergies.
Bags under the eyes can be removed by making completely hidden incisions within the eyelid, which is called a transconjunctional blepharoplasty. This is an excellent technique, especially for younger patients with good skin since there are no visible incisions.
For patients with more advanced skin wrinkling of the lower lid, an external, barely detectable incision is made right below the eyelashes. The lower eyelid muscle is supported with suspension stretches to reduce rounding of the eyelid.
Upper blepharoplasty should be considered when the upper lids hang over the eyes. Drooping eyelids may be misinterpreted as fatigue and sometimes the over hang is great enough that it interferes with vision. Visual obstruction is one of the only conditions that may be covered by medical insurance. The incisions for rejuvenation of the upper eyelids are barely visible after healing and are made along the natural crease of the lid. Eyelid incisions are closed with very fine sutures, which either dissolve or are removed in three to five days.
Dr. Lane also offers browpexy procedures that are performed at the same time as the eyelid lift and through the same incision which elevate the outer brow. |

BROWLIFT / FOREHEAD LIFT:
Brow lift (forehead lift) is a surgical procedure that raises your eyebrows to a higher and more aesthetic position. It will also improve lateral hoods which are the droopy flaps of skin that hang over the outside corners of your eyes. The procedure will also soften your horizontal forehead wrinkles and scowl lines between your eyebrows. Sometimes a drooping or furrowed brow can make you look tired or angry. The forehead can sag with time, causing hooding of the upper eyelids. Eyebrow position is an important part of one's expression when restoring a youthful look. Hooding of the upper eyelids may actually be more of a result of a sagging brow rather than excess upper eyelid skin. A forehead or browlift can address these changes.
A drooping brow can be corrected through both traditional and non traditional techniques. Endoscopic or minimal-incision browlift utilizes an endoscope (skinny telescope) and 4 or 5 tiny incisions behind the hairline. This technique minimizes loss of sensation and hair at the incision sites.
The traditional technique is a coronal lift, which requires an incision from the top of one ear, remaining behind the hairline to the opposite ear. The entire forehead is elevated through this incision from above. The coronal browlift is rarely used because of the extensive incision. However, for patients with high hairlines, the hairline position can be maintained or even lowered by a browlift. |

NECK LIPOSUCTION / PLATYSMAPLASTY:
As you age the muscles of the neck may becomes loose or weak creating the undesired effect of neck bands or "turkey gobbler." To correct this, we may recommend platysmaplasty surgery or neck liposuction.
Neck liposuction is a simple procedure in which we make a small incision below your chin from which the excess fat is removed. This procedure is often done alone or may be performed as part of a neck lift or facelift. If this is the only procedure you will need, you should plan to spend approximately one hour undergoing the operation.
A platysmaplasty surgery can restore the appearance of your neck by making a small incision under your chin and/or behind your ears to access your neck muscles. The muscles are then manipulated accordingly. Sometimes, that may even mean removing some muscles and suturing them together in the midline to improve neck contour. |

NOSE / RHINOPLASTY:
Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. The result can be subtle or dramatic depending on your desired effect. It is also the most complex operation in cosmetic surgery. Nasal anatomy and facial structure vary from person to person and procedures are highly individualized for each patient. We take great care creating a nose that is harmonious with the rest of your face. If you have been holding off out of concern for looking "fixed", we strive to create a nose that is natural and balanced with your other unique features.
Rhinoplasty is the sculpting of the nose that involves removing and narrowing some areas and enhancing others. The nose is altered through hidden incisions inside the nostril, occasionally with a tiny additional incision across the bottom of the nose. The external incision is called an Open Rhinoplasty, but an approach without an incision may also be an option for the patient. Dr. Lane specializes in standard Rhinoplasty and in Revision Rhinoplasty for patients who are not pleased with the results from prior outside procedures.
During surgery, the cartilage in the tip of the nose is reshaped. The tip can be rotated upward or downward, as well as brought closer or further from the face. Humps in the upper part of the nose can be removed internally as well. A wide nose can be narrowed, which accentuates once overlooked attractive eyes. The modern rhinoplasty may utilize grafts to add to some areas as well as remove tissue from another area, all creating a balanced, natural, strong look. These grafts are usually taken from the cartilage inside your own nose. |

CHIN ENHANCEMENT:
Your natural look can be enhanced and overall facial balance achieved through chin augmentation or a chin implant. Many patients desiring rhinoplasty can be helped by a chin implant/augmentation since a receding chin can accentuate one's nose. Augmenting the chin will restore facial balance and make the nose fit even better. Chin enhancement/augmentation is a relatively simple procedure that can make a major difference. Other surgical alternatives such as altering your own jaw to avoid using an implant will be discussed during the consultation.
There are multiple options for chin enhancement. Chin implants are an option in which a small prosthesis is implanted in the chin through a small incision below the chin. This implant is made of synthetic material that feels much like your natural tissue found in the chin and is available in a large variety of sizes and shapes. This allows custom fitting of the implant to the needs of your face. Chin implants are placed through a tiny incision under the chin and the scar is barely visible. Since natural facial balance is created, chin implants are usually imperceptible. |

SCAR REVISION:
Scars, whether they're caused by accidents or by surgery, are unpredictable. The way a scar develops depends as much on how your body heals as it does on the original injury. Many variables can affect the severity of scarring, including the size and depth of the wound, the blood supply to the area, the thickness and color of your skin, and the direction of the scar. How much the appearance of a scar bothers you is, of course, a personal matter.
While no scar can be removed completely, we're able to noticeably improve the appearance of scars through a surgical procedure known as scar revision. Scar revision surgery can make your scar much less noticeable or less severe. There are many different types of scar revision surgery. The type of scar revision surgery you have will depend on the severity of the scarring and your body's response to the injury. Scar revision may use laser, injections, skin grafts, Z-plasty, or other methods in order to lighten or diminish the scar's appearance.
